The Kuwaiti Health Ministry said Thursday it has trained some 50,000 teachers in the preventive measures necessary for combating the Influenza A subtype virus (H1N1).
"Up to 250,000 teachers from the various educational directorates nationwide are receiving daily training courses on the preventive measures," director of the ministry's central department for technical and medical services and public health Majeda Al-Qattan told KUNA. "The move is part of an aggressive public awareness program on the ways to control the fatal disease," she pointed out. The training program, based on scientific methodology, recognizes the importance of the teachers' role in realizing the symptoms of the disease such as high temperature if they appear on schoolchildren, Al-Qattan said. "The ministry published thousands of brochures and CDs highlighting the importance of precautionary measures including personal cleanliness in reining in the outbreak of the epidemic. "It plans to air radio and TV educational programs and contests on the disease in order to raise the public awareness," she added. The ministries of health and education have agreed to equip 120 school pharmacies with the necessary tools to deal with any swine flu emergency.
