A Popular Action Bloc (PAB) official has revealed that the bloc intends to present around 10 proposals following the Eid Al-Fitr holidays.
The spokesman said that the proposals are related to working for citizens' interests, stating that the issue of buying citizens' loans is set to be one of the most important subjects for discussion during the forthcoming parliamentary term. While the tensions between the government and parliament have been more subdued during the summer break, MP Saleh Al-Mulla has announced his attention to question Dr. Mohammed Al-Baseeri, the Minister of Communications and State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, when parliament resumes concerning his directive mandating the monitoring of online blogs, asserting that he would hold the minister accountable for such "snooping" under the pretext of protecting national security and describing the decision as a "gross violation that infringes the essence of the constitution. Al-Mulla insisted that Al-Baseeri had willfully misinterpreted His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah's directives contained in his speech marking the end of Ramadan, in which HH the Amir asserted the importance of protecting national unity. Using this to monitor online blogs and other websites is a clear violation of the freedom of speech guaranteed in Kuwait's constitution, said the MP, adding that he would question Al-Baseeri soon after parliament reconvenes over this issue. Al-Mulla also accused the government of being "lax" and of helping spread calls for sectarianism and other sectarian problems, adding that it should reconsider its educational policies and calling for the enforcement of mandatory Kuwaiti history classes within school curricula, as well as the introduction of lessons on the Kuwaiti constitution for all school pupils. The MP also criticized the government's handling of sporting issues, saying that it should not be discussing these topics since the country's sports-related legislation according to which the football association's elections should be held is clear and the issue is considered to be settled for him and his colleagues. Fellow parliamentarian Saad Al-Khanfour, meanwhile, said that the issue of citizens loans deserves to be discussed during the forthcoming parliamentary term, especially as a majority of MPs support purchasing and rescheduling these loans, reported Al-Rai. The MP said that all parliamentarians are eager to bring a satisfactory end to this issue, which has seen large numbers of citizens calling for cooperation between the government and parliament in order to find radical solutions to properly resolve the situation.
