Indian Central School has installed a Thermo Scanner and has made masks mandatory for the students, said the principal of the school, Santa Maria
, who was talking to the Arab Times explaining the new measures at the school to tackle swine flu. The principal said this following a ruckus at the school last week when some parents were angered over the school’s decision to disallow students without masks from entering classrooms. The parents complained to the Arab Times that the school authorities called the parents during working hours and asked them to provide their children with masks, “which caused much inconvenience for the parents, because it was a distraction from work.”
The parents alleged that the school did not give prior notice to them about the masks. The allegation was strongly denied by the principal. She said that notices were sent to the parents in advance and parents of children in the primary school were notified through the diaries, “which the parents are supposed to check every day.” Further the principal said that the school has taken swine flu very seriously and is among the very few schools in Kuwait to have all the systems in place to ensure the safety of the students. “The parents have to cooperate with us, because at the end of the day it is for the benefit of our children.
“Every student has to pass through the thermo scanner every day. Students with above normal temperature are isolated in the auditorium. Their temperature is checked again after about half an hour, and if they show symptoms of fever, the parents are notified immediately for due action. “For the first three days after the school reopened, we provided all the students with masks, and they were supposed to bring their own masks after that. We have also insisted on sanitizers and soaps and asked students to regularly use them. “We have spent a considerable amount of money to make our school safe. Now, to make these measures effective we have to be strict in implementing them. Instead of complaining, the parents have to support us and show solidarity with us to fight swine flu.” The principal also thanked the school sponsor, “who have given us due support and encouragement to deal with this health threat in the appropriate manner.”
