11-year-old Kuwaiti girl overcomes blindness through painting |

Basma Al-Saeed, an 11-year-old student from Al-Nour and Al-Amal School for the Blind, has truly overcome her physical disability expressing her sentiments and artistic skills in applauded paintings.
Al-Saeed, who displayed her works on sidelines of a festival held here by Al-Zawaya Group, told KUNA that she has largely depended on the touch sense to make her works of creativity. "I have lost the sighting sense but His Almighty has compensated this with insight and determination that have enabled me to prove for certain that there is nothing impossible with the will power," the young painter said. Al-Saeed said she has been painting since she was nine and expressed gratitude to the people who have encouraged her, namely the artist, Naji Al-Hai. She called on the relevant authorities to devote greater attention to the blind for they can contribute with various activities for the society and the homeland with their diverse physical and mental potentials. Meanwhile, the general manager of Zawaya Group, Rana Al-Khaled, called at the inauguration of the three-day festival for supporting the youth to help them in the service and development of the country. Young Kuwaitis, aged between 16 and 18, are taking part in the three-day workshop, displaying diverse paintings and photos. Among the significant and eye-catching items on display is a book chronicling major national achievements and creative works between 1950 and 2009, including data and photos.
