The British Council on Saturday urged Kuwaitis to take note of rules and guidelines issued by British education
authorities before applying for study in the United Kingdom. Speaking to KUNA, Project Manager for Education in the British Council Kuwait, Rafat AbuTaleb said that studying in the UK instills students with a spirit of competitiveness required in today's workforce. There are around 3,000 educational institutions in the UK that can help develop these abilities, he added. A student should be well versed in the English language and must attain the required documents, including a pass in the International English Language Testing Systemin (IELTS) in order to be allowed study in the UK, he stressed. The period to attain a degree in any major varies according to the subject with some subjects requiring pre-major studies. Founded in 1934, the British Council is a UK government-funded non profit educational establishment which specializes in providing international educational and cultural opportunities. According to its website, the British Council aims "to build mutually beneficial cultural and educational relationships between the United Kingdom and other countries, and increase appreciation of the United Kingdom's creative ideas and achievements." It operates in over 233 bureaus in 107 countries worldwide.
