Sri Lankan ambassador here on Saturday praised relations with Kuwait, inviting its people to explore his country's historic and tourist sights.
Relations between the two governments are "excellent" and it is anticipated to be further developed at popular and economic levels, Ambassador K.S.C Dissanayake told reporters. He noted that one of the attractions distinguishing Sri Lanka, beside tourism and entertainment, is treatment using medicinal herbs and techniques, urging Kuwaiti businessmen/women to explore investment opportunities there. It is noteworthy that the number of Kuwaiti tourists to Sri Lanka during the first half of 2009 has gone up by 22 percent, compared to the same period last year. Upon a request made by the embassy here, a select group of Kuwaiti journalists, comprising of high-ranking editorial staff from mainstream Kuwaiti newspapers and Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) will travel to Sri Lanka on a familiarization tour co-organized in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourist Board and Sri Lankan Airlines. The tour will be from September 28 to October 5, 2009, as the Kuwaiti delegation is scheduled to conduct interviews with Sri Lankan senior officials, including the president and the foreign minister, as well as other dignitaries.
