Kuwait Municipality on Monday began inspections on schools and catering companies to these schools in conjunction of the new academic year.
The municipality has been conducting the inspection tours on a yearly basis; before the new school year, as procedures include concurring sanitation of the place, competence of manufacturing machinery, as well as verifying health permits of labor working at these facilities, Director of Public Relations' Department at the municipality Rashed Al-Hashaan said in a press release. The health ministry is teaming up with the municipality in the inspection, by taking random food samples and send them to the ministry's laboratory for tests, Al-Hashaan noted. He pointed out that all food catering companies should sign contracts with the ministry of education, which in turn, forward the contracts to the municipality to follow through. All schools do not have kitchenettes to prepare meals, and if a school did have one, the municipality would issue an ultimatum for both the school and company, as it is a violation to establish such utility within the school's premises without a permit, he said.
