The Kuwait News Agency's (KUNA) newly-opened photography exhibition in Italy was launched to stress the deep-rooted relations between Kuwait and Italy.
The exhibition, which showcases Kuwait's development through the art of Photography, is being held in the Instituto Geografico Militare in Florence. Sheikh Mubarak Duaij Al-Sabah, KUNA's chairman, along with Major General Carlo Colella, the commander of the Military Geographic Institute, and Pierandrea Vanni, the chairman of the Kuwaiti-Italian Friendship Society, attended the exhibition's inauguration. The event highlights the special relationship between the two peoples, Colella said, adding that such ties were strengthened during and after the Iraqi invasion and occupation of the State of Kuwait. He lauded Sheikh Mubarak for organizing the event, which he said helps to strengthen bilateral relations, expressing a wish that the exhibition would go on to tour a large number of Italian cities to showcase Kuwaitis' strong will, which helped them to revive their homeland after the 1991 Liberation. Meanwhile, Eugenio Gianni, the President of the Tuscany region, praised Sheikh Mubarak for participating in this invaluable cultural event. Vanni hailed KUNA for organizing this exhibition, which marks the beginning of the society's 20th anniversary. He noted that the Italian-Kuwaiti Society was established two days after the 1990 Iraq invasion to stress Italians' support of Kuwait's independence and freedom. In his speech at the institute, Sheikh Mubarak expressed gratitude to the Italian side for their support and for hosting the exhibition, which contains numerous photographs documenting the Italian contributions during the invasion and post-liberation phase. Modern media has to serve as a mediator between people of different cultures and backgrounds, he said, communicating the Kuwaiti leadership's greetings to their Italian counterparts. During his visit to Italy, Sheikh Mubarak met with a number of Italian and European officials, and prominent journalists. Sundus Al-Mubaraki, the director of KUNA's Marketing and Public Relations Department, Issam Al-Ruwaih, the director of the agency's International Affairs Department, Abdulhamid Malek, its finance director, are among Sheikh Mubarak's accompanying delegation on the visit.
