Early detection of breast cancer is a main factor to help controlling and treating the disease, a Kuwaiti expert said Saturday.
A Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, the second held in Kuwait, aims at running tests on 3,000 women in order to deliver a clear message to all women on benefits of early detection, Director of Breast Clinical Diagnosis Unit in Al-Sabah Hospital Dr. Nour Al-Huda Kermani told reporters on the occasion of launching the campaign tomorrow (Sunday). The screening will start tomorrow in Al-Jahra Health Zone, followed by Al-Farwaniya, Hawalli, Al-Ahmadi and Al-Asema (Capital) from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, as the campaign will last until October 28, Kermani noted. During the last campaign, a total number of 1,100 women were screened, with seven cases detected at early stages, she said, adding that all confirmed cases were treated at Hussein Makki Juma Center for Specialized Surgeries. One of eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide, yet, in Kuwait, 88 percent of suspected cases turn out to have harmless tumors. Breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths among women. Women need to be aware that age, obesity, genetics, and family history are the most significant factors that can contribute to the risk of developing this disease. Individuals may help reduce their personal risk of breast cancer through regular exercise and healthy lifestyle choices.
