Director of Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry's Consular Affairs Department Hamoud Youssof Al-Rawdhan said Sunday his country cares for the safety and welfare of all foreign nationals particularly the housemaids.
"The State of Kuwait, out of keenness on protection of human rights, fights all forms of discrimination based on gender, color or religion," Al-Rawdhan said during his meeting with a visiting Indonesian delegation. "Kuwait is reputed to be one of the leading countries that guarantee all rights of workers and provide them with the facilities that suit their convenience on equal footing," he affirmed. "With nationals of some 100 countries working in it, Kuwait has a long experience in dealing fairly with expatriate workers whether in the public or private sectors, Al-Rawdhan pointed out. He promised to offer all possible help to the Indonesian delegation during they stay here, highlighting the importance of the cooperation deals signed by the two countries. The delegation, now on a visit to Kuwait, includes representatives of several sectors concerned with labor affairs. On his part, advisor at the Indonesian Ministry of Economy and chief of the delegation Erivan Habibi said the visit to Kuwait opened new horizons of cooperation. Speaking to KUNA, Habibi said there are some loopholes in the operation of the Kuwaiti private employment offices which bring unqualified workers from Indonesia and other countries. "In some cases the workers are unable to accommodate themselves to living and working in Kuwait due to the difference in customs, traditions and cultures," he pointed out. "The delegation got updated on the work regulations in Kuwait as well as the mechanisms of bringing foreign workers," he said, highlighted the need of his country to launch specialized institutes for qualifying workers for overseas employment. The visit of the delegation is part of the program of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on international dialogue on migration and regional consultative processes. The program aims to enhance exchange of information between Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, on one hand and the Middle East migrant-recipient countries including Kuwait and Bahrain, chief of the IOM mission in Kuwait Fawzi Al-Ziod said in statements to KUNA. "It backed the Indonesian government in its efforts to manage its expatriate workers. "The aim of the program is to build the capacity of governments in tackling the migration issues and challenges," Al-Ziod noted. "It facilitates the exchange of information between the migrant exporting and importing countries in order to achieve the interests of both sides. It helps the policy-makers run the migration management programs," he added Today's meeting was also attended by Faisal Al-Oteiki, Mubarak Al-Shuraiaan, advisors at the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry, as well as first undersecretary of the Adel Al-Jassar, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah from the follow-up office, and Mohammad Al-Khaledi from the consular affairs department.
