The head of the Public Health Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Rashid Al-Owaish has reassured citizens and residents about the spread of swine flu.
He said that the media has exaggerated figures and urged everyone to avoid rumors. Al-Owaish was responding to people's queries. He said that the infection detected in schools across the country are low when compared to the global level. He added that a campaign would soon be begun to provide certain categories of people with vaccination shots, as part of their precautionary plan to contain the spread of virus. He went on to say that 200,000 vaccines have already been administered, while 150,000 others will be administered next month, a sizeable chunk of who comprise Hajj pilgrims, repor ted Al-Qabas. Furthermore, Al-Owaish played down the seriousness of the disease. He stated that it is curable and could only turn fatal for those who are chronically ill. He also pointed out that the companies that manufacture the vaccine has laid down a condition asking them to exempted from any responsibility should complications arise as a result of taking the vaccines. Al-Owaish further urged parents to avoid taking their children to crowded areas. Meanwhile, at least 30 cadets from the (G1) have contracted the H1N1 flu virus, security officials said. The students have been quarantined, including setting isolated areas to eat. Special programs and time schedules have also been created, reported Awan. Officials said that they are on the path to recovery. Military officials have ordered trainers to refer any trainee to the clinic in case they noticed any cases of fatigue.
