he Senyar team, volunteers from Kuwait's Volunteer Work Center, recently launched a website to monitor sea turtles as part of the effort to counter the danger of extinction of the creatures, a center official told KUNA Wednesday.
Hussein Al-Qallaf said the center and the team carry out efforts in cooperation with sponsors French company Total Foundation, Kuwait Scientific Center, and the Coast Guards to preserve the species and to monitor turtle nesting developments. The new site posts rich information and unique photos to benefit researchers. The figure urged more public effort to spread awareness and recommended better education through lectures at schools and other educational institutions on this issue and the marine environment issue in general. The Kuwait Turtle Conservation Project was launched in April 2009 and lasts till July 2011 under the slogan "Towards Knowledge and Protection". The project involves researchers attempting to unravel the mysteries of sea turtle presence in the area. Population assessment, species assessment, nesting seasons, and public awareness are some of the project's challenges, according to official project documents.
