Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Minister of Oil Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah has opened on Wednesday the 34th Kuwait Book Fair
, being held under auspices of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the minister said: "The fact that the annual event is being organized regularly since 1975 shows Kuwait's care for promotion of culture and knowledge." "Beside the oil resources, Kuwait's true resources lie in man; the next generation has to be well equipped for facing the challenges of the future," Sheikh Ahmad said. Alongside with the book show, the activities of the fair include cultural symposia featuring poetic creativity and concerts," he pointed out. The minister lauded the Arabic heritage, voicing hope that the Arabic cultural achievements would feature more prominently on the Internet which is so appealing for youth. Meanwhile, Secretary-General of theNational Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL) Bader Al-Rifai said: "The distinctive feature of year's edition of the fair is the woman achievements in the world of publication, cultural development and poetic and musical creativity." "The fair will shed light on the victory of four females in Kuwait's last legislative elections which set a precedent in the Arab parliamentary elections," Al-Rifai noted. The fair, which is scheduled to last through November 7, includes a pavilion for local press where Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) shows its latest publications including official statistics about the State of Kuwait. - Kuna
