Kuwait's general administration of the Civil Aviation Authority said on Thursday that the schedule for winter operations at Kuwait International Airport
began last October 25th and runs until March 27, 2010. The administration expects the winter season to witness an increase in the amount of aviation traffic due to several factors, among them the expansion of air transportation which reflected positively on aviation traffic in previous months, the administration said in a press statement. The statement noted air traffic figures in recent months witnessed a quantum leap, where weekly commercial flights jumped from 1176 flights at the beginning of the year to 1408 flights by the end of last September, around 20 percent growth. The statement added the weekly rates of passenger traffic increased during the same period from 138,208 passengers per week to 150,786 passengers, a nine percent growth. The amount of air cargo shipments has also increased from 3444 tons a week to 3670 tons, a seven percent growth, the statement noted. On another front, the statement said that the administration has reviewed vital developments adopted by the civil aviation during this coming winter season where Kuwait Airways Corporation will see some changes to the schedule, especially with the opening of a new air route to Bangladesh, at twice a week, including a weekly increase in flights to and from Cairo, a total of 13 flights per week.
