Kuwaiti Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Ambassador Dharar Abdul-Razzak Razzooqi presented to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay Kuwaits extraordinary voluntary annual contribution to the work of the organization of USD 300,000.
In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Ambassador Razzooqi said that the Kuwaiti contribution is in the context of Kuwaits recognition of the heavy burden on the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and its conviction to support its task, mandate in the human rights field.
Ambasador Razzooqi condemned the continued Israeli practices against the Palestinian people especially the siege of Gaza which hinders assistance from entering to the victims of the brutal Israeli aggression and also is an obstacle to re-construct Gaza.
In his meeting with High Commissioner Pillay, Ambassador Razzooqi said he stressed that HH the ruler of Kuwait, God Bless HH, has presented USD 34 million to the United Nations Works and Relief Agency for Palestinian Refugees in addition to Kuwaits annual regular voluntary contribution to alleviate the suffering the Palestinian people under occupation.
He praised the role of the High Commissioner Navi Pillay in highlighting the Israeli crimes during the Gaza war and her call for a need for monitoring the Israeli violation of the human rights of the Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt).
Ambassador Razzooqi welcomed the forthcoming visit of Pillay to Kuwait next April and said that the visit will reflect positively on the cooperation program between both sides.
High Commissioner Pillay expressed her appreciation for the continued Kuwaiti contribution to assist her office in carrying her important mandate.
She also praised the good relations between her office and Ambassador Razzooqi and his team at the Kuwaiti mission in Geneva.
The meeting was attended by Kuwaiti first secretary at the mission Talal Al-Mutairy and member of the Kuwaiti delegation Nawaf Naman. - Kuna
