Fund GENEVA, Nov 17 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva and other international organizations Ambassador Dharar Abdul-Razzak Razzooqi presented
to the Executive-Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Michel Kazatchkine Kuwait's voluntary extraordinary contribution of USD 500,000. Ambassador Razzooqi told KUNA following the meeting that Kuwait supports all global efforts to combat AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and called for supporting such programs of prevention and care for those killers. He added that he discussed with the Executive-Director of the Fund the programs and projects undertaken by the Fund and its future plans to combat those deadly diseases especially in Arab and Islamic countries. Ambassador Razzooqi noted that Kuwait was among the leading countries that contributed to the Fund when it was created by a UN resolution in 2001 in line with its deep conviction that the epidemics that rsie from those deadly diseases kill thousands of people especially in the developing and least developed countries (LDCs). Ambassador Razzooqi quoted the Executive Director's wish that more Arab and Muslim countries present contributions to the Fund, noting that the Fund has invested so far more than USD 5 billion in member countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). The Kuwaiti seasonedA diplomat welcomed the forthcoming visit of the Fund's Executive Director before the end of this year to the State of Kuwait, stressing that the visit with strengthen relations between both sides. Executive-Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Michel Kazatchkine praised the important role played by Kuwait in the Middle East in supporting the Fund and its projects worldwide. Michel Kazatchkine said that the Fund looks forward to strengthen relations with the State of Kuwait and its institutions, and expressed hope that his next visit will strengthen the good and long relations between both sides.
