The parliament discussed Wednesday during its complementary regular session the draft law on employment of citizens in the private sector and possible amendments to it.
The government and MPs had disagreed on how to approach such amendments which made it difficult to finalize the modifications to the law. MPs said that the law was not fair for Kuwaitis and should consider those many unemployed Kuwaiti youths. The amendments should include articles concerning the increase of employments of Kuwaitis and decreasing the numbers of expatriates holding jobs that a Kuwaiti could handle, said some MPs, affirming that marginal labor power had led to the increase of criminal activities in the country. The MPs criticized an amendment which would lead to the establishment of a separate entity that would handle the employment of foreigners, saying that the Interior and Health Ministries should be part of the process when bringig expatriates to work in Kuwait. The discussions on the issue did not conclude which led Deputy Speaker Abdullah Al-Roumi to adjourn the session till December 8.
