The Kuwaiti government approved Monday a draft law over veterinary quarantine in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The bill will unify laws and regulations among the six GCC countries in addition to terms of veterinary quarantine with ultimate aim of protecting animal wealth, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Roudhan Al-Roudhan said in a statement after a cabinet meeting. He said the cabinet, chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, referred the draft law to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to be signed ahead of referring it to the parliament. Al-Roudhan, meanwhile, said the cabinet took note of a message sent by the Danish prime minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen to His Highness the Amir to invite him to the Climate summit in Copenhagen, due on December 17-18. The minister said Sheikh Sabah instructed His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Sabah to represent him at the summit. The cabinet also took note of a message by former US President Bill Clinton to Sheikh Sabah, regarding Clinton's recent visit to Kuwait and the initiatives by the Clinton foundation in the humanitarian, environmental and health domains. The council of ministers, on the other hand, discussed National Assembly affairs, in addition to political matters at the Arab and international levels. - Kuna
