Number of nationals applying for registration of creativity works is steadily increasing, according to an official in the scientific domain.
The figure of the national innovations and inventions, being sent to the international patents registration agencies, have been rising steadily, said Jassem Bechara of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). Bechara, in charge of the KFAS department of culture, sciences and program for supporting the inventors, in a press release on Tuesday, urged every citizen who has a work or plan for innovation to report to the foundation for examination and consideration of prospected adoption and registration of the invention. Shedding light on a recent KFAS-organized scientific workshop, Bechara said it was distinguished with participation of many figures involved in inventions and innovations, adding that the gathering was designed for supporting inventors and discussing plans for protecting their rights. Other topics addressed at the workshop were related to certain criterion that should be taken into consideration by the innovators ahead of registering an invention at an international patents and trademark agency. Bechara added that had spoken at length, during the gathering, about the KFAS mechanisms for the registration of inventions by Kuwaiti citizens. Participants in the recent workshop discussed various procedural, legal and financial issues related to the registration of patents, marketing of the works of creativity in Kuwait and other countries, in addition to the process of translating a creative notion into an item before turning it into a commercial product. Elaborating, he indicated at the KFAS participation in a workshop, recently organized by the Arab League intellectual property section, during which the Kuwaiti participants presented the national experience in this field. For his part, the Director of the Bureau for Sponsorship of Inventors at the Kuwait Scientific Club, Khaled Al-Hassan, affirmed that the creative nationals enjoy special attention and care of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the other leading and relevant authorities. The club and the foundations offer special sponsorship for the innovators, not only in Kuwait but also in regional states. - Kuna
