MANILA, Nov 29 (KUNA) -- Board Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society Barjas Al-Barjas, accompanied by the society treasurer Saad Al-Nahed and staff members, examined regions affected by a recent deadly typhoon.
Al-Barjas was accompanied during the field tour by staff of the Philippines Red Cross and the deputy chairperson of the society, Evelyn Lacsina. In a statement to KUNA, Al-Barjas said the mission was aimed at determining losses that resulted from the typhoon and floods that occurred on September 26, killing 246 people and making 730,000 others homeless. He added that he and his delegation visited a school housing some 300 families whose homes were destroyed with the roaring waters. The Philippines needs an urgent plan to secure housing for the homeless and delivery of necessary aid to the victims of the recent catastrophe, he added. Trying to enhance morale of the floods' victims, Al-Barjas urged them in a statement to remember that "life is delightful and is worth struggling for." For her part, Lacsina said in remarks to KUNA that the KRCS delegation was the first Arab mission to visit the stricken areas and deliver assistance to the needy. She praised the badly needed aid offered by Kuwait for the victims. The Kuwaiti assistance included mattresses, tents, housing utensils and food. Al-Barjas accompanied by members of the society are currently visiting the Philippines and Indonesia to distribute aid to the needy. The delegation will also open "Jaber Al-Ahmad village" in Indonesia. - Kuna
