Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Chairman Barjas Al-Barjas is set to inaugurate Jaber Al-Ahmad Village at the tsunami-hit Indonesian province of Banda Aceh on Saturday.
The inaugural ceremony is also to be attended by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Indonesia Nasser Al-Enezi, Kuwaiti diplomats and several Indonesian media representatives. The village, named after the late Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, has been erected on the area that was destroyed in tidal waves in 2004. The village is home to 150 houses, a mosque and a medical center. Banda Aceh is one of the largest provinces in Indonesia, where Muslims make up 99 percent of population. It bore the brunt of the tsunami that hit Indonesia in December 2004. KRCS was in the forefront of world societies that sent humanitarian relief aid to Indonesia to ease out its tsunami woes. The society has set up several infrastructure projects in Indonesia since the tidal waves shocked the country. - Kuna
