Kuwait funds village in Indonesia |

Chairman of the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society Barjas Hamoud Al-Barjas has inaugurated here Saturday the village named after the former Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah
in the Indonesian region of Banda Aceh. The opening ceremonies were attended by Kuwait ambassador to Indonesia Nasser Al-Enzi, Banda Aceh governor Arwandi Yousef, member of the board of Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society and the honorary treasurer Saad Al-Nahed and top members of the Kuwaiti embassy, besides a number of Indonesian media people and journalists. Al-Barjas said in his address during the opening ceremony that people should feel proud and appreciative for helping the Indonesian people in the aftermath of the tsunami, pointing out that the Society has taken the lead in serving the afflicted on behalf of the Kuwaiti people and government. Jaber Al-Ahmad village was constructed on the area devastated by the tsunami disaster in 2004 and it contains 150 houses, mosques and medical centres, Al-Barjas said. He went on to say that his society has carried out several projects in Indonesia in the wake of tsunami and frequent earthquakes that hit the region including water treatment plants and reconstructing the infrastructure in the disaster-hit areas. Al-Barjas said that the Kuwaiti assistance included the Banda Aceh region, Sabang island and Nias, besides Yogyakarta and seram and at last the tsunami that hit the padang province. Al-Barjas added the society has also carried out many projects including a water desalination plant, constructing an orphanage, besides handing over fully equipped 300 fishing boats in Banda Aceh and its neighborhoods for the fishermen. Eventually, he said that the projects covered the rehabilitation of the devastated schools, constructing school libraries, sponsoring orphans, providing hundreds of fishing boats, bulldozers, automatic machines and ambulances, besides sending big amounts of relief materials and medical supplies and 65 heavy machines for removing blocks from the road. On his part, the Banda Aceh governor has expressed his thanks for the efforts exerted by the state of Kuwait in rescuing the afflicted all over the globe, expressing utmost thanks for all Kuwaiti assistance offered for Indonesia and in particular the Banda Aceh region.
