Around 2,000 cleaning workers and drivers embarked on demonstration at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Monday Dec 7, 2009. The workers complained they have not been paid their salaries for the past seven months, and went on to express resentment toward in-humane treatment they receive at the company they work. Ministry sources were quoted as saying the company in question is owned by a senior official in the ministry, and added the ministry had not responded to previous complaints the laborers presented. Sources noted the workers carried out a related strike action several months ago, while the company’s officials confirmed their problems were settled, claiming KD 1,200,000 was cashed in paying the workers. However, the workers insist they received nothing. - Arabtimes
